Kobo
韓国食彩 幸房
At Kobo in Higashi-Jujo, homestyle Korean fare takes centre stage, from simmered samgyetang and yukgaejang soups to savoury jeon, japchae, and house-made kimchi packaged for takeaway.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When you want an authentic addition to the dinner table or a deeply warming bowl of soup to unwind, Kobo in Higashi-Jujo is an easy stop to rely on. Small packaged portions of homestyle Korean side dishes line the counter, making it simple to pick up whatever suits your mood in an unpretentious, welcoming setting.
For restorative nourishment, samgyetang is an easy first choice. The chicken cooks down until tender and falling off the bone, stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, and aromatics that impart clean, gentle depth and subtle seasoning to the broth. The shop also prepares vegetable-packed, pleasantly spicy yukgaejang and rich sundubu jjigae, hearty enough to serve straight from the pot as the centrepiece of an evening meal.
Substantial staples and casual accompaniments are just as plentiful. Classic jeon pancakes are griddled until fragrant and crisp, with variations such as potato on offer. Springy, vegetable-loaded japchae, bite-sized kimbap rolls, and sweet-spicy yangnyeom chicken round out the selection, serving well as family sharing plates or drinks snacks.
Alongside the prepared dishes, shelves hold deeply flavoured cabbage kimchi, green onion kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, and savoury-spicy changja to pair with steamed rice. Korean condiments and instant noodles are also stocked, handy for adding authentic notes to everyday cooking at home.
A visit greeted by warm hospitality and a bag of chilled delicacies quickly turns an ordinary home meal into a generous Korean spread. Payment is cash only, so it is best to come prepared.
